People didn't stay much longer on the rooftops. The Manhattan skyline has changed forever, and New Yorkers shortly thereafter headed back to their offices to get more news from colleagues who stayed downstairs.  There were many people who didn't go home yet. They stayed in the office, and watched live TV or listened to the radios.
