Friday, September 15, 2001. This is a Wall of Hope near emergency entrance of Bellevue Hospital Center on the East side of Midtown Manhattan. There was a Wall of Hope near all New York City hospitals. The relatives of missing people posted on these walls photos and descriptions of their loved ones in hope that someone somewhere has seen them, or their remains. Very soon these sites became memorial places where all those often-called ignorant New Yorkers would come to light a candle, leave a bouquet of flowers, and see the faces of people most of whom would never be found alive again. |
